Young people growing in faith

Pupils from primary schools in Mullingar parish attended Mass in the Cathedral on Wednesday morning, marking the beginning of the new school year.

In his homily, Fr Joe thanked the children and their teachers and wished them well for the new school year. “Our schools are like families” Fr Joe said “and our schools, like are homes, are best when we treat each other with kindness and respect, just as Jesus asks us”.

On Tuesday afternoon, students from Loreto College took part in their annual opening of the new school year Mass. During the Mass, 10 Leaving Certificate students were commissioned as Ministers of Holy Communion. The 10 students will assist with liturgies in the school and they will also join the Cathedral parish rota as Ministers of Holy Communion on Sunday mornings.

This weekend, we welcome to the children who are enrolling for First Holy Communion. We are committed to helping the children and their families to grow in faith as they prepare for First Holy Communion. Here is a prayer which we encourage the children to recite each night before they go to sleep from now until First Holy Communion Day:

God Our Father, I've come to say, thank you for your love today. Thank you for my family and all the friends you give to me. Guard me in the dark of night and in the morning send your light, Amen
