Remembrance Mass 2013
It was attended by families and friends of the 154 parishioners who died in the past 12 months. The names of the deceased were read during the Mass and a candle was lighted in memory of each one.
A reflection on bereavement was given by well known author and broadcaster, Christy Kenneally. In his words, the author gave encouragement to the bereaved in facing their loss.
He described life without our loved ones as the "new normal". He continued: "Sometimes people will tell you that you'll recover, you'll get back to normal, but in fact it will never be the same again. We have to find ways of adapting our lives to these changed circumstances. It is more important to be real than to play a role."
"Grief" he said "is the price of love. The heart cannot be removed from the body. Keep a place in your hearts for your loved ones who are no longer with us. In this way, we accept the reality of grief while also remaining close with those who have gone."
