Openair Mass on Sunday 10 June
The parish is very keen to get as many people as possible involved. The Eucharistic Congress in 1932 left a huge impression on the memories of those who took part in it 80 years ago. We hope that our own local celebration on 10 June will help us take pride in our faith and to celebrate the life of our parish. We want this to be a family event where people will come together because the Mass is still important to us. A lot of people won't be able to get to Dublin for the international celebrations but this way we get to bring the Eucharistic Congress to Mullingar.
Pearse Street is the venue for the outdoor Mass which will begin at 11am on Sunday 10 June. The newly formed Cathedral Gospel Choir will join the Cathedral Choir and Choristers to provide the music with Mullingar Town Band. At the end of Mass, the Corpus Christi Procession will be led through the town, ending with Benediction on the steps of the Cathedral.
A lot of people have asked us to do something to bring the spirit of the Eucharistic Congress to Mullingar. It has been a long time since Mullingar parish brought the Mass to the streets. We are delighted that so many people are willing to help us to make the occasion very special.
Children who received First Holy Communion will be invited to come along to the Mass in their Communion outfits. They will be given a special place in the procession. Sports clubs and all organisations are more than welcome to add colour to the occasion. In the photo above, kindly taken by John McCauley, three pupils at St Kenny NS (Deirbhile, Sinead and Zoe) are preparing flags for the openair Mass.
Volunteers will be needed to assist on the day and a rehearsal will take place on Tuesday 5 June at 7pm in the Cathedral.
