Honduras remembers Fr Paul’s visit 12 months later
Speaking from Honduras, Trócaire's regional manager Sally O'Neill said:
"We still vividly remember Fr Paul's visit during which people in Honduras had the opportunity to learn how parishes in the Diocese of Meath raise money and promote awareness about world poverty. Fr Paul was able to see the impact of that support on the lives of people here.
"When Paul went home he didn't forget the people he met. Throughout the year he welcomed two Honduran youth leaders to his parish, collected lots of great sport kits which are now proudly worn by rural children who could never have dreamt of owning a "Man Utd" shirt and encouraged Trocaire's local project officers to persevere with their work".
The photo above was taken at a project Fr Paul visited last January in Honduras. Trócaire coordinator Alexis Williams explains that "this project helped 54 landless women to set up a cooperative to obtain land and feed their families. Over the past few months with help from global gifts bought by people in the Diocese of Meath, Trocaire has provided seeds and materials to diversify the fruits and vegetables which they grow. Families have been trained to raise cattle for milk and meat for their dietary needs. With their growing incomes the women are able to keep children in school and improve the quality of housing."
