Mission Sunday 2011
The Presentation Sisters described their work in Pakistan and elsewhere as part of our reflection on Mission Sunday. We were delighted to have four Presentation Sisters at all Masses, including Sister Teresita Abraham, the Mother General of the Presentation Congregation, which has 2,500 members worldwide.
Last August, parishioners in Mullingar raised €24,000 to aid the relief efforts in Pakistan when flooding caused devastation in that country. The Presentation Sisters opened their schools in Pakistan to flood victims. They were able to help hundreds of families who lost everything in the disaster. The Sisters told us about this project and other elements of their work in proclaiming the Good News throughout the world.
A mission display is available in the Cathedral porch, outlining the work of the Presentation Sisters
The Apostolic Works Society had their annual sale in the Parish Community Centre last weekend. We thank them for their tremendous efforts to assist the mission of the Church, especially among the poorest in the world where the Church continues to grow.
Meanwhile we pray too for the Church in Burma, where Catholic religious sisters work closely with the local Buddhist community to care for children and their families. This project is aided by the Diocese of Meath, with generous support from the pupils and staff at St Colmcille's NS, Gainstown.
