World Youth Day pilgrims - "we're back"
This photo shows the cross on our World Youth Day shirts and it reflects the Gospel we hear at Mass today. "Anyone who wants to be a follower of mine must take up the cross each day and follow me".
I am really proud of our parish taking part in WYD in Madrid last week and I want to thank Tracey, Michael, Hannah, Janine and Jemma for joining me in this unforgettable experience. It taught us all something about our faith, our church and ourselves.
There are times when, like the disciples in the Gospel, we get afraid of the cross and we fear that we might walk away. One of the message I take home from Madrid is that Jesus invites us to carry the cross but in reality he carries it with us and for us. He encourages all of us to walk in a pilgrimage of faith; 'yes' to renounce what holds us back from God and neighbour; 'yes' to a life where faith is shared. During the World Youth Day pilgrimage, we shared our faith with the 2.2 million people who gathered there. They inspired us by their faith and I hope that, representing our Mullingar parish, we too offered some message of hope to the young people we met along the way.
You can see plenty of photos from WYD Madrid on my own Facebook page and follow us at Gallery. Thanks again to all the parishioners who helped to make our journey possible.
