HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

As the season of Christmas approaches, we extend our warmest Christmas blessings to you and your families. In the hustle and bustle that leads up to our celebration of Christmas, many of us find ourselves asking, "What's it all about?" We sometimes wonder in the rush, the stress, and the hurry, whether we have somehow missed the real meaning of it all.

At Christmas, we remember that Jesus was born in poverty, in a stable among the poorest people and the farm animals. What does this mean for us today? You and I are called to look for the face of Christ in the poor, those at our own door and in places far from here.

Love can look like a cup of coffee offered, a handheld, a smile shared, and a story heard. I firmly believe that, in the end, we will be judged by how we care for the poor.

And Christmas is also about repentance and forgiveness. With God there is mercy and forgiveness, and second chances. And so must we offer those gifts to others. Christmas is a time of renewal, of fresh starts and coming together.

Christmas is a time for peace and for reaching out to the poor and vulnerable and we commend the work of St Vincent de Paul and the Lions Club in our community.

Your unwavering support to our Parish Team has been a source of strength and a beacon of hope, enabling us to continue our ministry among you. Thanks for your extraordinary kindness and generosity. We are truly blessed, and we are profoundly grateful for your friendship and support.

May the infant Jesus fill your hearts and homes with his peace and love.

A Christmas Prayer

Loving Father, help us remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, the worship of the wise men.

Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting.

Deliver us from harm by the blessing which Jesus brings. May Christmas morning make us happy to be your children, and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts.

  • As we bid farewell to Fr. Vincent, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for his presence and ministry among us in Mullingar Parish.

Fr. Vincent is a priest of the Diocese of Chipata, Zambia, and was ordained on August 15, 1999. Since his arrival in September 2020, he has been a valued member of our parish community while pursuing his Doctorate in Theology on health care ethics at the Pontifical University St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth.

Now, as his studies conclude, Fr. Vincent will return to Zambia to serve on the staff at St. Dominic’s Major Seminary in Lusaka, where his knowledge and dedication will undoubtedly enrich the formation of future priests.

We thank Fr. Vincent for his contributions to our parish and the Diocese of Meath, and we assure him of our prayers and blessings as he begins this new chapter in his ministry. May God guide and sustain him in his mission.

Go well, Fr. Vincent—you will be greatly missed!

  • If you know someone who is housebound and unable to attend Sunday Mass, please let us know. One of our priests will arrange to visit them monthly to offer the sacraments, especially Holy Communion. The time for receiving Holy Communion during Mass is for personal reception only. The distribution of Holy Communion to the sick and homebound is reserved only for priests and commissioned Eucharistic Ministers.

We kindly ask those bringing Holy Communion to the sick to check in before Mass outside the sacristy in the cathedral or in the sacristy at St. Paul’s by filling out a sign-in book.
